Power BI reports in your own portal. With access by role.

ENABLE is a Power BI embedded portal: your Power BI reports are embedded in a secure portal in your own branding. The connection runs via a Microsoft Entra service principal per organisation. For each access profile you decide who sees which dashboard, and with row-level security who sees which rows.

Directly in ENABLEBusiness intelligence

With a Power BI embedded portal, you share Power BI dashboards with colleagues, customers or partners without separate links, shared accounts or PDF exports. In ENABLE your reports are embedded in one portal, where users log in with two-factor authentication and see only the dashboards that belong to their profile.

Power BI is connected directly to ENABLE: the portal talks to your workspaces via the Power BI REST API, using a service principal in Microsoft Entra ID that is configured per organisation. The secret is stored encrypted.

In ENABLE

What you do with Power BI data

Share dashboards with external users

Invite customers, franchisees or partners by email. They see only the dashboards in their profile, in your branding.

Row-level security per user

Link a profile or user tag to a Power BI role, optionally with CUSTOMDATA(). Without a tag, a user gets no access, so never unfiltered data.

Refresh status and health

Users see when the data was last refreshed. With a daily health check, platform management sees the status of each report: Healthy, Attention or Error.

Presentation mode

Show dashboards without RLS in presentation mode, for example on a screen in the office.

DAX queries in the SQL Explorer

Analysts run DAX queries on the Power BI model in the SQL Explorer, alongside SQL on the data warehouse.

Steps

How to connect Power BI to ENABLE

  1. 1Set up a service principalYou register an app in Microsoft Entra ID with access to the right workspaces and enter the tenant ID, client ID and secret per organisation in ENABLE.
  2. 2SynchroniseENABLE retrieves workspaces, reports, pages and visuals. You choose which reports appear in the portal.
  3. 3Set up access and RLSYou link reports to access profiles and, where needed, profiles or user tags to Power BI roles.
  4. 4Invite usersUsers receive an invitation by email, log in with two-factor authentication and open their dashboards in the portal.

Share Power BI dashboards via a Power BI embedded portal

In practice, Power BI dashboards are often shared via separate links, shared accounts or exported PDFs. That no longer works when many people inside and outside your organisation may each see different reports and data. Publish to web is not an option, because the report is then visible to anyone with the link.

In ENABLE you manage access in one place. Access profiles bundle dashboards and apps, a matrix shows which profile has which dashboards, and with "Preview as user" you check what someone sees. The activity log records who did what, including embed sessions.

Power BI Embedded for external users

External users, such as customers, suppliers or franchisees, open their dashboards in a portal with your logo, colours and login page. Invitation emails are available in Dutch, English, French and German, and the portal has a mobile view, so Power BI for external users also works on a phone.

Microsoft sets capacity and licensing requirements for Power BI Embedded. We discuss which set-up suits you during the intake.

Row-level security: every user sees only their own data

Row-level security (RLS) is off by default and can be switched on per organisation. You link an access profile or a user tag to a role in the Power BI model, optionally with a value for CUSTOMDATA(). If a user has no matching tag, they get no access. There is no fallback to unfiltered data.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a Power BI embedded portal?

A Power BI embedded portal is your own web environment in which Power BI reports are embedded, so users open them without going to the Power BI service. ENABLE is such a portal, with your own branding, access profiles, row-level security and two-factor authentication.

How do I share Power BI dashboards with external users?

In ENABLE you invite external users by email and assign them an access profile. They see only the dashboards in that profile, and with row-level security only their own data.

How does row-level security work in ENABLE?

You link access profiles or user tags to roles in your Power BI model, optionally with CUSTOMDATA(). ENABLE passes that identity along when embedding, so Power BI filters the data. Without a matching tag, a user gets no access.

How do I know whether my Power BI reports are working properly?

ENABLE runs a daily health check on your Power BI reports; Data Analytics sees Healthy, Attention or Error for each report. Users see on every dashboard when the data was last refreshed.

What does ENABLE need to connect Power BI?

A tenant ID, client ID and secret of a service principal in Microsoft Entra ID, with access to the workspaces that contain your reports. ENABLE stores the secret encrypted with AES-256-GCM.
