Daily health check
Every morning ENABLE checks each dashboard's connection to Power BI, the dataset, the last refresh and the rendering. A new check can also be started manually.
Platform · Module · Monitoring
Power BI monitoring in ENABLE shows whether your dashboards are healthy and whether they are being used. A daily health check tests each dashboard's connection, dataset, refresh and rendering, and returns "Healthy", "Attention" or "Error". You also see active users, dashboard opens and dashboards nobody opens any more.
Power BI monitoring comes down to two questions: do my dashboards still work, and are they being used? A dashboard with a failed refresh shows old figures without anyone noticing. A dashboard nobody opens still costs maintenance. ENABLE tracks both, per dashboard and per organisation.
Every day a health check runs on all connected Power BI dashboards. It checks whether the workspace and dataset are linked, whether the last refresh succeeded, whether the dashboard loads without errors and whether every page has a phone layout. ENABLE also counts every time a dashboard is opened in the portal.
The full "Dashboard health & usage" overview is used by platform admins (Data Analytics), who see per portal where something needs attention. Client admins see the activity log themselves, and every user sees on each dashboard when it was last refreshed.
Features
Every morning ENABLE checks each dashboard's connection to Power BI, the dataset, the last refresh and the rendering. A new check can also be started manually.
Each element gets "Healthy", "Attention", "Error" or "Not measured". So you see at a glance which dashboard has a problem and where it lies.
Every dashboard shows "Last refreshed", with the time of the last successful refresh. If a refresh fails or is switched off, the user sees it straight away.
How many people used the portal in the last 30 days, how often each dashboard was opened and what the daily trend looks like.
A separate list of dashboards nobody uses. Useful for clearing out, or for finding out why an important dashboard isn't being opened.
See which dashboards are opened most, and per user the last login, the last activity and the number of opens. Also per access profile.
ENABLE checks per page whether there is a phone layout in Power BI. If a page lacks one, the dashboard gets the status "Attention".
Client admins see recent actions in their portal. Platform admins see an event log that includes every embed session, including denied ones, with the reason.
Most monitoring looks at one side only. Technical monitoring tells you whether a refresh succeeded; usage statistics tell you who opens what. Only together do they give an honest picture. A dashboard that always refreshes but is never opened is not a success. A dashboard everyone opens daily deserves the most attention when something goes wrong.
That is why ENABLE shows both in the same overview. Per dashboard you see the status of connection, dataset, refresh, rendering and mobile layout, next to the number of opens and the number of unique users.
The health check runs automatically once a day, for all active organisations. Each element has a fixed rule:
| Element | What is checked | When Error or Attention |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | Workspace linked and reachable via the service principal | Error if the workspace is missing or unreachable |
| Dataset | Dataset linked, last refresh in Power BI | Error on a failed refresh |
| Rendering | Dashboard last loaded in the portal without error | Error if the last attempt to load failed |
| Mobile | Phone layout per page in Power BI | Attention if pages have no phone layout |
ENABLE records every time a dashboard is displayed in the portal, along with the device type. That produces an overview of the last 30 days: active users, total dashboard opens, daily opens, the most opened dashboards and the dashboards nobody uses.
What you do with it differs per organisation. You clear out dashboards nobody needs, you see which team could use some training, or you establish that a new dashboard has really caught on. The conversation is then about facts instead of gut feeling.
The question "are these figures up to date?" comes up in every organisation. In ENABLE the answer is on the dashboard itself: "Last refreshed", with the time of the last successful refresh. If the last refresh failed, refresh is switched off or a refresh is running at that moment, the portal shows this with its own label.
The refresh status comes from the refresh history in Power BI and is updated during the daily check and when users open the dashboard library. So everyone knows what they are looking at, without emailing the BI team.
In ENABLE
Platform admins synchronise your organisation's Power BI workspaces, reports and pages with the portal.
Every open is recorded and the health check runs daily. No extra setting is needed.
An "Error" or "Attention" status is immediately visible in the overview. Once the issue is resolved, platform admins run the check again.
Use the usage figures to clear out, improve or better promote dashboards.
FAQ
Every day ENABLE checks each dashboard's connection to Power BI, the dataset, the last refresh, the rendering and the mobile layout, and gives each one a status. ENABLE also tracks how often each dashboard is opened and by how many users.
In ENABLE, every time a dashboard is opened in the portal is recorded. For the last 30 days you see active users, dashboard opens, the most opened dashboards and the dashboards nobody uses.
Every dashboard in the portal shows "Last refreshed", with the time of the last successful refresh. If a refresh fails, refresh is switched off or a refresh is running, the portal shows this with a separate label.
"Healthy" means the element worked properly at the last check. "Error" means, for example, a missing connection, a failed refresh or a dashboard that did not load. "Attention" means something is missing but the dashboard still works, such as a phone layout on a page.
Not by email. A failed refresh is visible on the dashboard itself and in the platform admin overview. Automatic email alerts are not part of ENABLE.
