Same-day shipping rate: formula and example.

Same-day shipping rate is the share of orders shipped on the same day they were placed. You usually only count orders received before the cut-off time, for example 4 pm. It measures how well the warehouse delivers on an order-today, ship-today promise.

Same-day shipping rate formula

Orders shipped on the order day ÷ total orders (received before cut-off) × 100%

Worked example

In May 2026 Acme Groothandel received 3,400 orders before the cut-off. Of these, 2,890 were shipped the same day. The same-day shipping rate is 2,890 ÷ 3,400 × 100% = 85.0%.

How to read this KPI

A higher rate means shorter delivery times for customers and less work rolling over to the next day. Drops are often caused by order peaks, too few staff late in the day or items that are out of stock. Compare by day of the week and against the promise you make on your website or in contracts.

Pitfalls with same-day shipping rate

  • Counting orders placed after the cut-off, which drags the rate down unfairly.
  • Not looking separately at orders waiting for stock or payment.
  • Counting a printed label as shipped when the parcel is not collected until the next day.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate same-day shipping rate?

Count the orders shipped on the day they were placed and divide by the total number of orders received before the cut-off. Use the moment the carrier collects or scans the parcel as the ship time. Orders after the cut-off belong to the next day.

What is a shipping cut-off time?

The cut-off time is the latest time an order can come in and still ship the same day. It usually depends on the carrier's collection time. A later cut-off is more attractive for customers but makes warehouse planning tighter.

How is it different from late shipment rate?

Same-day shipping rate measures how often you hit the fastest promise. Late shipment rate measures how often you miss your latest dispatch deadline. An order can therefore miss same-day and still ship on time.
