Offer acceptance rate: formula and example.

Offer acceptance rate is the percentage of job offers that candidates accept. You divide the number of accepted offers by the number of offers made. A low rate means you are losing candidates at the end of an expensive recruitment process.

Offer acceptance rate formula

Number of accepted offers ÷ number of offers made × 100%

Worked example

Acme Groothandel made 32 job offers in 2025, of which 24 were accepted. The offer acceptance rate is 24 ÷ 32 × 100% = 75.0%.

How to read this KPI

A higher rate means your offer and your process match what candidates expect. If it is lower, follow up on declined offers: is it pay, commute, the length of the process or a counter-offer from the current employer? Compare by job family and track the trend, especially when the labour market shifts.

Pitfalls with offer acceptance rate

  • Not recording verbal offers, so declines are missing from the figures.
  • Counting withdrawn offers as declines.
  • Drawing conclusions from a handful of offers per quarter; small numbers fluctuate a lot.

SQL & DAX

Calculating offer acceptance rate in SQL and DAX

Two examples on a fictitious data warehouse for Acme Groothandel: a PostgreSQL query and a measure for a Power BI model. Adjust table and column names to your own model.

SQL · PostgreSQL
SELECT date_trunc('year', opened_at)::date AS year,
       SUM(offers) AS offers_made,
       SUM(offers_accepted) AS offers_accepted,
       ROUND(100.0 * SUM(offers_accepted) / NULLIF(SUM(offers), 0), 1) AS offer_acceptance_pct
FROM vacancies
GROUP BY 1
ORDER BY 1;
DAX · Power BI
Offers Made = SUM ( Vacancies[Offers] )
Offer Acceptance % = DIVIDE ( SUM ( Vacancies[OffersAccepted] ), [Offers Made] )

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate offer acceptance rate?

Divide the number of accepted offers by the total number of offers made in the same period and multiply by 100%. Only count offers the candidate has responded to. Leave pending offers out.

Why do candidates decline job offers?

Common reasons are pay and conditions, a counter-offer from their current employer, a competing offer or a selection process that took too long. Ask every candidate who declines and record the reason. That shows whether the issue is your offer or your process.

How can you improve your offer acceptance rate?

Discuss pay and conditions early in the process so the offer holds no surprises. Keep the time between the final interview and the offer short. Then measure whether the rate goes up.
