Connect Azure Cosmos DB. Through your own data warehouse.

You use Azure Cosmos DB data in ENABLE through your own PostgreSQL data warehouse: the data is loaded and modelled there, and dashboards, plain-language questions and apps read from it. ENABLE has no built-in connector for Azure Cosmos DB.

What is Azure Cosmos DB?

Azure Cosmos DB is Microsoft's globally distributed NoSQL database service in Azure. It is used for applications that need to respond quickly in many locations at once, such as webshops, IoT solutions and mobile apps.

How to use Azure Cosmos DB data in ENABLE

Data from Azure Cosmos DB is loaded outside the portal, with a standard connector or a custom integration, and then modelled in your data warehouse. Data Analytics sets this up. From then on Power BI dashboards, the SQL Explorer with AI and the data API read from the same model, and access profiles decide who sees what.

App data from Cosmos DB next to the books in Business Central shows how in-app orders flow through to revenue and stock. With account data from Dynamics 365 Sales you can see which app usage belongs to business customers.

Plain-language questions

  • “What share of baskets were not checked out last month, by country?”
  • “How many of the app's monthly users are active every day?”
  • “How many new users completed onboarding in the app?”
  • “What is the average order value by region and device type?”

The SQL Explorer with AI turns a question like this into SQL on your data warehouse. You see the query, run it yourself, and the AI only receives metadata. More about the SQL Explorer

How to connect Azure Cosmos DB

  1. 1Sketch the end resultFirst decide which questions and dashboards you want from Azure Cosmos DB data; that tells you which data is needed.
  2. 2Load into your data warehouseOutside the portal, with a standard connector or a custom integration. We decide which route fits during the intake.
  3. 3ModelTables and definitions that work with your other sources, so everyone sees the same numbers.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does ENABLE have a built-in Azure Cosmos DB connector?

No. ENABLE reads from your own PostgreSQL data warehouse. Data from Azure Cosmos DB is loaded into it outside the portal, with a standard connector or a custom integration; we decide which route fits during the intake.

Which Azure Cosmos DB data can you use?

Typically JSON documents in containers, user profiles and preferences, baskets and orders and device telemetry (IoT). Exactly which tables you use depends on the questions you want to answer: Data Analytics first sketches the end result and then connects the data it needs.

Can I ask questions about Azure Cosmos DB data in plain language?

Yes, with the SQL Explorer with AI. The AI turns your question into SQL on your data warehouse and only receives metadata for that, such as table and column names, never the rows themselves. The SQL Explorer is available to client admins by default and can be switched on for users per organisation.

What does it cost to connect Azure Cosmos DB?

The price of ENABLE depends on your plan. Each plan includes a number of data sources, from 2 on Solo to 50 on Enterprise+, and an extra data source costs €49 per month. Prices are indicative; after a demo and intake you receive a tailored proposal.
