Connect PostgreSQL. Directly in ENABLE.

ENABLE reads directly from your PostgreSQL data warehouse, through an encrypted, read-only connection. Dashboards, plain-language questions, apps and the data API all work on the same tables.

What is PostgreSQL?

PostgreSQL is an open-source relational database known for its reliability and broad SQL support. Organisations use it as the database behind their own applications and as a data warehouse for analysis.

How to use PostgreSQL data in ENABLE

Platform administration connects your PostgreSQL data warehouse with an encrypted, read-only connection and prepares the data sources that may be built on. From then on Power BI dashboards, the SQL Explorer with AI, custom dashboards and the data API read from the same tables, and access profiles decide who sees what.

In ENABLE, PostgreSQL is every customer's data warehouse: invoices from Exact Online, deals from HubSpot and orders from Shopify sit side by side there. That lets you answer questions about margin, customer value and payment behaviour with one query instead of three exports.

Note: A PostgreSQL database behind an application is not the same as a data warehouse. Heavy analysis on the production database can slow the application down.

What you do with PostgreSQL data

Plain-language questions

  • “How has gross margin moved per product category each month this year?”
  • “Which customers pay latest on average, and how much do they still owe?”
  • “What was the average order value per sales channel last quarter?”
  • “Which items have turned over most slowly across the last twelve months?”

The SQL Explorer with AI turns a question like this into SQL on your data warehouse. You see the query, run it yourself, and the AI only receives metadata. More about the SQL Explorer

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does ENABLE have a built-in PostgreSQL connector?

Yes. PostgreSQL is the database ENABLE reads from directly: every portal runs on its own PostgreSQL data warehouse, through an encrypted, read-only connection.

Which PostgreSQL data can you use?

Typically tables from in-house applications and portals, modelled fact and dimension tables for reporting, orders, invoices and customers from connected source systems and views with agreed KPI definitions. Exactly which tables you use depends on the questions you want to answer: Data Analytics first sketches the end result and then connects the data it needs.

Can I ask questions about PostgreSQL data in plain language?

Yes, with the SQL Explorer with AI. The AI turns your question into SQL on your data warehouse and only receives metadata for that, such as table and column names, never the rows themselves. The SQL Explorer is available to client admins by default and can be switched on for users per organisation.

What does it cost to connect PostgreSQL?

The price of ENABLE depends on your plan. Each plan includes a number of data sources, from 2 on Solo to 50 on Enterprise+, and an extra data source costs €49 per month. Prices are indicative; after a demo and intake you receive a tailored proposal.
